2D type
Activity Brief
Cut out 3 shapes out of different paper mediums for use in crafting letter forms.
Option A
1st set of letterforms (non-overlap):
Wanted to try using negative space vs. overlapping to see what effect it would have. For the most part, you can work out a lot of the letters, but some are a little difficult.
Vectorisation (using image trace, adobe illustrator):
Using only a B/W colour palette makes some letters read better, but others worse. Overall though I think it possibly works better in monotone.
Coloured letterforms:
Using 4 different colours doesn't help with readability; actually think it makes it worse. Using yellow on the leopard shape has made some letterforms very difficult to read (would have been better with the leopard shape colours inverted).
Option B
2nd set of letterforms (overlap):
Not to be left out, decided to also try overlapping shapes, as naturally you can get better letterforms using this method. Wouldn't say either method is better, because some letterforms actually look worse when overlapped, vs others that are clearer.
Vectorisation:
These work better than the 1st set, however there is still some that aren't fully clear as letterforms. For the best result, it would likely need to be a mix of the two versions to get a clear set of letters.
3d type
Activity Brief
Create 3d letterforms using various objects and materials
Materials used: Plastic square frames and line lights
Wanted to do something different, that could also be used within the 2d project Had some copper line lights from Christmas. using the plastic square frames allowed the lights to be wrapped around to create lines. Needed to use string on some bits to keep the lights in line, which lessens the effect somewhat in daylight, however the string isn't as noticeable in the dark.
Daylight (artificial light really...) vs. Darkness
