Brewdog Custom Cans

Brewdog offer custom birthday cans, which I thought was appropriate. They're very on the nose in regards to "birthday", and possibly slightly too busy in the amount of content that's actually displayed on the can.

Crooked River's designs are quite stunning, though they seem a bit inconsistent in logo and mark usage. I do however find their designs of the keg labels helpful. Find that most breweries don't show their labels online, so this will be a massive help when developing.
Seven Brothers Brewing Co.

Seven brothers cans all vary in style, making them all unique. I especially find the prominent 7 in all of the designs to be the thing that catches your eye. Think there could be something in just the number...
Cloudwater Brew Co.
10th anniversary cans & t-shirts

Cloudwater's designs for their 10th anniversary are fine, though I think the t-shirts were executed better than the cans. The cans feel like something is missing, or either that theres far too much negative space. They are clean looking however.

Though not really my style, Beavertown's can designs are on point. All very consistent, colourful, bold, and importantly unique. They didn't really do a lot for their 10th anniversary in the way of designs, it was more events-based.
Left Handed Giant

Left Handed Giant's designs are very polarising in style, very few of them tie in together (though I think that's the point). `they do however execute unique styles very well.

Ideas

Last year's designs
Having had a crack at this last year, I want to try and mix it up this time with something different. My own takeaway from the presentation last year is that they were maybe a bit too commercial/formal, so want to try and be a bit more playful this time (especially with it being a birthday can).
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
From the research, I feel there's something in just having the number 1, nice n' bold, but in the style of west walls styling. Seven brothers have executed this really well, focusing on the number (not an anniversary can, but it works all the same).

Picture
Sketches
Instead of drawing sketches for the full can, I've decided just to concentrate on the main piece of the design instead. This means it will be easier to apply to different products without having to think how to rework them e.g. from can to t-shirt.
Picture
Picture
Not massively keen on the ones featuring candles and cakes, as it seems very on the nose (though it is something theyve mentioned in the guidelines). Won't really know until they're developed digitally.
Picture
Picture
Definitely want to explorer the 3d look, and maybe the stained glass geometric look, along with using a variety of colours (alongside also presenting in their own colour palette).

IDEA Development

Started off trying to develop the ideas I had drawn, but I wasn't really feeling any of them. think its because I've not done them in a can label dimension. Gonna just go for it and try and develop a few but as labels instead.

Wasn't feeling the "1" in isometric 3d, so abandoned it early on.

Can Testing

It kind of works, but I dont like the back... would need to figure out a better back design to match the front

Direction

Think out of all the options, these two are the strongest. Want to explore using their colour palette as an option, as well as tidying up some of the layout on the design.

Further Development

Idea A
Pretty much this idea is all about changing the existing to match West Wall's colour scheme.

Idea B
Did some minor adjustments to the original design, removing the crafting moments text on the front (moved to back with logo) Added logo mark so it's clear it's still west walls from the front (as the design spans around the can).

Idea C
An alternative to the first two, using a brush style to make the design more playful. Went with white outline instead of black, to make the design look a bit brighter and bolder.

Final Outcome

Presentation

Feedback

Got the opportunity to get feedback on projects from two creatives from the agency Hotfoot (Charlie & Julia). They had a great idea of going further with the stained glass look, applying it to their own windows for effect. Want to implement this and add it to the presentation.
